DUTCH

HISTORY

THROUGH

 FOOD

Full tour: Rotterdam, every Wednesday at 11 AM
Short tour: Rotterdam, by request

You are what you eat

Is that too cliche? We don't think so. This phrase doesn't just apply to people; it applies to cultures and civilizations as well. Some of the most important Dutch stories, from Roman times until today, can be told through food.
If you like history and cuisine, then this is the tour for you.

Our 4-hour exploration of Rotterdam is conducted by bicycle or by a combination of walking and public transit. The first booking determines which mode of transit we'll use. The tour will visit 4 restaurants, the inner workings of a windmill, a historic 19th century sailing ship and of course, the highlights of Rotterdam- Historic Delfshaven, the Erasmus Bridge, the Cube Houses and more!
While your guide will be tasked with helping history come alive, we also encourage active discussion by the participants of our tours. We want you to ask questions, share your own insight and get involved. We also want you to be aware that some of the history we'll be sharing isn't so pleasant. The Dutch colonial period came with a high price for many people. We'll try to tell these stories in the best and most balanced way possible.
All of the foods in this tour are vegan. Wait a second, non-vegans! Were you ready to sign up until you got to that part? We like good food. Really good food. If you come on the tour and truly hate the food, tell us before the end of the tour and we'll give you up to 50% of your money back. Seriously. We're that confident about the quality of the products. Also, please let us know if you follow a gluten, nut, or soy-free diet and we can make arrangements for you as well.

A citizen of the

world should

take this tour

Are you here for the food more than the history? Or is 4 hours a little long for you?
Hey, we're flexible. The short tour bypasses the windmill and the sailing ship and goes straight to the eats. It is 2.5 hours long and generally starts at 1 PM, but with enough notice, we can vary the time.
