The hotels in this tour must be strongly sustainable and locally owned or important to local culture.
Our meals, too, utilize local, sustainable products. When possible we have partnered with small restaurants and farms.
To travel between Rotterdam and Dordrecht we will travel by sailing ship and hope to be able to use sail power the whole way. All other transportation is on electric trains and trams and biodiesel or electric vehicles.
This tour has been designed to environmentally and socially sustainable. Even so, we will still generate greenhouse gasses.
We will calculate the final carbon emissions after the tour and pay any additional offsets out of our profits.
Receive a 10% discount on one of our one-way bicycle rentals and have another adventure!

This can be arranged before or after your tour. We will also provide luggage storage and transfer services at no additional cost between your starting and ending locations, so you only have to bring with you what you need for your cycling trip.

With the discount, rental rates are just €16 per day or €108 per week. Do you want to rent camping gear and have a proper adventure? We can provide that too, also at a discount! We can provide as much or as little as you'd like, from fully inclusive guided cycling tour itineraries (extra cost) to bare-bones rentals. We recommend arriving to Rotterdam by the early afternoon, so you have time to explore this remarkable city. Your tour director will be waiting for you at our hotel, the SS Rotterdam. She was once the “grande dame” of the Holland America Line fleet, sailing from Rotterdam to New York beginning in 1958. She has been lovingly restored and moored in the Rotterdam harbor, where she now takes guests on a cruise through history and nostalgia as a 4-star hotel.

In the early evening, we will head across the Maas where we will board the Rottertram, a 1969 electric tram car that is now a mobile restaurant. We'll receive a tour of the beautiful city of Rotterdam while enjoying a gourmet 3-course meal.

In the early evening, we will be joined by the group participating in the 4-day "Weekend Cruise" tours. Our group will come together and go to the nearby Fenix Food Factory, where we’ll enjoy a tour of the artisan food makers’ stalls before sitting down to a chef-curated dinner of local products. After dinner, you can take a quick water taxi ride back to the SS Rotterdam or continue exploring the city. Your tour director can suggest some off the beaten path places to enjoy authentic Dutch nightlife.

Saturday, 18 July
Dordrecht via Kinderdijk

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Hotel: Villa Augustus

We will say “goodbye” to the steamship Rotterdam and “hello” to our historic tall ship. Once aboard, anyone wishing to assist the crew can help them raise the sails,
navigate and maybe even take the helm! We will use sail power as much as possible to reach our first stop - the UNESCO world heritage site of Kinderdijk. Here we will walk amongst the 19 historic windmills which aided the Dutch in their fight against the water.

After our private tour of the windmills, we will return to the ship for a lunch fit for a captain before we continue sailing to Dordrecht. There, in the early evening, we will disembark the ship and bid a warm goodbye to her hospitable crew. The town of Dordrecht, one of the oldest in the Netherlands, is full of history, beauty and nature. Our hotel blends these elements very nicely and will serve as a perfect base for relaxation or exploration.

Please note: We will be onboard the sailing ship for approximately 6 hours. You will be able to actively assist in sailing or relax both inside and outside. There is a bar onboard, bathrooms, comfortable seats and for most of the journey there will be cellular service, but there is no wifi.

Sunday, 19 July
Dordrecht and the Biesbosch National Park

Meals: Breakfast and Lunch

Hotel: Villa Augustus

In the late morning we will depart for the Biesbosch National Park, one of Northwestern Europe’s most important freshwater tidal wetlands. Here we will enjoy a relaxing
morning and afternoon of exploration. We will all pay a visit the park’s visitor’s center to learn more about the waterfowl and mammals that rely on this rich ecosystem. Then, you can share an electric boat with your traveling companions, or set out in a kayak, canoe, stand up paddleboard or bicycle (rentals included) to explore the wetlands and islands. Or find a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the peace of nature. We will all meet in a scenic spot for an included picnic lunch.

The rest of the afternoon and evening are yours to explore or relax, accordingly.

We will enjoy a guided tour by one of the museum docents which will include works by other artists as well, including Picasso, Monet, and Mondriaan.

Following the guided tour, we will have lunch as a group at the museum's restaurant. Then you can choose to return to the museum or set out to explore the trails of the Hoge Veluwe National Park. The 55 square kilometers of park includes heather fields, wetlands, forests and sand dunes which provide a habitat for red deer, foxes and wild boars.

The rest of the day is yours to explore as you'd like.

Utrecht is a beautiful city filled with history and we want you to experience it in the way that suits you best. You have one of two choices for today's activities:

- Your local Utrecht guide will take you on a tour of the quaysides that line Utrecht’s canals. They are unique and form the heart of Utrecht’s city centre. Always wanted to know why there’s a difference in height between pavement and quay, and which centuries-old traditions have remained unchanged over the years?

-Enjoy the water on a canoe or kayak tour of Utrecht’s canals.

The final full tour day for us will end with one final group dinner, where we will reminisce over what a full and incredible week we've had.
