Everyone has a story...
It might be strange for us to say this, since we're a tour company, but we think that the people who have the best stories often aren't the tour guides. They're the people you never meet- the grandmothers, dishwashers, struggling artists and more. We want to give these people a voice.
Everyone has at least one good story. Some people want to share them, some people don't. These stories don't need to be told orally either. They could be shared through food, music, dance, art, writing- the list goes on. The plan now is to have two tours per month: one in English and one in Dutch. Our vision is to feature 4 or 5 storytellers per tour who connect to each other and/or the city in some way. In a space of their choosing, they'll share their story.
Each tour will be donation based. At the end, you can give (or not) whatever you want. The donations will be split equally between your guide and the storytellers. We don't want any of the money.
For us, this isn't about making money. It's about creating an opportunity for people to authentically connect.
“Real facts often take a lot of
trouble to acquire... An opinion,
on the other hand, is very easily
formed, and it is equally conducive
--Desiderius Erasmus (real quote)
When does it start?
Well, as soon as we have storytellers! We're actively compiling a database now of people who want to participate. As soon as we have enough participants, we'll begin offering tours. We recommend "liking" us on Facebook to stay up to date with the latest developments.
Do you have a story to tell?
Is there something that you really want to share? Do you know some one with a great story? Or would you like to be a guide for one of our tours? Great! We would love to have you! Fill out the form below and let us know when you're available and what you'd like to share. We are also looking for venues open to hosting the tour for a 20-30 minute stop.
We will meet with every participant beforehand to hear, see, taste or otherwise experience what it is you have to share.
For matters of safety we don't want to bring people to your home. Unless the storyteller is physically unable to leave the house, or the house is central to the story itself, we'd prefer to meet you in a public space. If this is an issue for you, let us know in the "comments" section of the sign-up form.
"Stories" in whatever form you wish to share them in should be at least 5 minutes long, but please no longer than 20 minutes. If your story doesn't fit these time constraints, please let us know why in the "comments" section.
Are you nervous? Shy? Unsure of how to share your story? Let us know! If you have something that you want to share but you're not confident in how to do it, we'll help you!
Remember, we're not looking for professional speakers or entertainers.
Do you speak a language other than Dutch or English? Let us know. We'd love to be able to offer City-teller tours in Arabic, Greek, Spanish, Turkish, etc.
